Text description provided by the architects. The Project of “Estoril 153” intends to solve the difference of levels between two streets. This is done with the creation of a services ground floor where two housing volumes settle. The volume A, with 5 levels, ensures the west urban front of the Mello e Sousa street. It´s turned to the sea and that explains the multiplous terraces it has as well as its grey color that is inspired on the foggy days sky common of this coast areas. This color is also the color of the predominant stone – “azulino de cascais”.
The volume B, with 3 levels, directly connected to the gardens of the Estoril Casino, points to the main entrance of the project. It’s like a big bordeaux balcony to the gardens and acts like the lungs of the whole set. This color gives continuity to the north building which is next to our proposal.
Although it’s pleasurable to be next to the sea, this fact brings in most of cases a quick degradation of the materials. This project solves this problem using a ventilated wall system, which also brings a reduction on the energy consumption. The fifth floor of the volume A is covered by zinc boards as well as all its higher volumes like the elevators and the chimneys.
The windows are in anodized natural color aluminium and the guards of the balconies are in stainless steel or glass depending on the cases. The closing and darkening system is mainly ensured by external orientable metallic blinds.
In the interior predominate the woods in the floor of the bedrooms and living rooms and the ceramics on the kitchens and toilets. The interior doors, furniture and baseboards are in white MDF, making connection to the white walls, bringing uniformity and light to the interior of the proposal.
